“Master the science that makes or breaks your investigation.”
Understand the Stakes. Train for the Impact.
From criminal charges to career-ending policy violations, your investigation can be the deciding factor. This course ensures you’re prepared.
The most controversial, high-consequence cases in policing today are Officer-Involved Shootings (OISs). Yet too many investigators, prosecutors, and review boards still lack the foundational understanding of how human behavior functions under threat. This course changes that.
Taught by a retired Chicago PD Homicide Lieutenant who oversaw hundreds of homicide and OIS investigations—and who is a certified Advanced Force Science Specialist—this course provides a deep, science-backed, investigator-specific understanding of the physiological, cognitive, and behavioral dynamics in high-stress force encounters.
You’ll leave with the tools to accurately assess, document, and articulate how and why an encounter evolved the way it did—and to defend that truth in any room, from media scrutiny to court testimony.

“Oversaw hundreds of OIS and homicide investigations in one of the nation’s most scrutinized police departments.” Retired Lieutenant Ozzie Valdez served over 30 years with the Chicago Police Department, with 25 of those in investigative assignments and leadership roles. As a Lieutenant in the Detective Division, he supervised hundreds of homicide investigations and numerous officer-involved shootings, navigating some of the most high-profile and politically charged cases in the city’s history.
A graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command and a Force Science Advanced Specialist, Ozzie brings deep academic insight paired with unmatched street experience. His courses are a masterclass in how science, law, and experience intersect to shape investigations that are defensible, ethical, and precise.
